InterTonal™
For the microtonal curious.
InterTonal makes affordable replacement guitar necks that give conventional guitarists a lower-barrier way to explore microtonal playing on Strat-style guitars.
WHY INTERTONAL?
Microtonal guitar should be easy to try.
Exploring microtonal guitar can mean buying a purpose-built instrument, commissioning specialized fretwork, or making a significant commitment before knowing whether it is something you want to pursue.
InterTonal takes a different approach: start with a Strat-style guitar and change the neck.
Put the neck on. Give the guitar a normal setup. See where it takes you.
The idea is to make microtonal guitar something more players can actually try.
A new landscape for experimentation, for about the price of a boutique pedal.
THE Q15™
21 standard positions.
15 more in between.
Q15 is a quarter-tone replacement neck for Strat-style guitars. It retains all 21 standard fret positions and adds 15 quarter-tone positions through standard fret 15.
From the nut through standard fret 15, the Q15 layout places one quarter-tone fret between each pair of standard fret positions.
After standard fret 15, the added positions stop and the neck continues with standard fret positions 16 through 21.
The result is a hybrid quarter-tone layout: a continuous region of quarter-tone positions across the lower and middle portion of the fretboard, followed by standard spacing higher on the neck.
The additional frets are unconventional. The installation isn’t.
Q15 is designed to let a player explore a substantially different fretboard without beginning with the purchase of a complete purpose-built microtonal guitar.
PRODUCT FACTS
Q15 at a glance
Q15 is designed as a Strat-style replacement neck. Guitar dimensions vary, and installation should be evaluated for the individual instrument. A normal guitar setup is expected after installation.
ABOUT INTERTONAL
A lower barrier to a different fretboard.
InterTonal is an independent guitar-products brand based in San Antonio, Texas. Its focus is making microtonal guitar more approachable for players coming from conventional instruments.
The Q15 is InterTonal’s first production neck. Rather than building an entire specialty instrument around a microtonal fretboard, InterTonal puts that fretboard on a replacement neck designed for a widely used guitar format.
The idea is to make microtonal guitar something more players can actually try.
